The 5 Most Wonderful Winter Activities In Amarillo

The ground may not be blanketed in white quite yet, but it’s definitely winter in Amarillo, Texas. And winter in the Texas Panhandle is full of fun events and festive holiday activities.

We’ve rounded up our six favorite Amarillo winter activities that everyone can enjoy.

I Want Unlimited Warm Leads!

Bishop Hills Christmas Lights

This beautiful Amarillo neighborhood is known for its spectacular lights display every Christmas. Located northwest on Tascosa Road north of the Loop, the lights shine brightly upon the hills (yes, hills!) of Amarillo. For more than 50 years, Bishop Hills residents have been decking out their homes for all of the city to see.

Grab your family or friends, popcorn, Christmas treats and hot chocolate, and hop in the car. Don’t be surprised if you hit bumper-to-bumper traffic, though. (That’s what the treats are for.)

Amarillo Botanical Gardens

We’d be remiss if we left off the Amarillo Botanical Gardens’ stunning light display. Now until Christmas day, enjoy Christmas in the Gardens. Gaze upon 200,000 lights adorning the trees and pathways, and listen to live entertainment at this beloved annual event.

Admission is free. Donations are welcome.

Holiday Races

Get in the holiday spirit by breaking a sweat. Whether you want to run or walk, there are a variety of races available this year. Enjoy hot chocolate, door prizes, games, food and Christmas carolers. Plus, you can work off that Thanksgiving feast!

For a full list of winter races, visit the Active or the Lone Star Runners Club website.

Amarillo Bulls

If you’re feeling a bit cold this winter, nothing gets your blood pumping like a competitive ice hockey match. Come out and support the Amarillo Bulls, Amarillo's very own ice hockey team. Bring your friends, coworkers or the whole family.

Hot Beverages

While hot beverages aren’t an activity per say, you can certainly make an event out of yummy, warm beverages. Cheer the holiday season at one of Amarillo’s many amazing coffee spots, such as Palace Coffee Co., Roasters Coffee & Tea, Evocation Coffee, Urbana, and the 806 Coffee + Lounge.
